Together sharing skills and knowledge towards achieving Zero Plastics to the Seas of Africa
On the 12th, 13th and 14th of February 2019, the African Waste Academy kick started the first series of its webinar programme. The webinars included a showcase of the Sustainable Seas Trust’s Education and Capacity Building project presented by Alexie Kalenga, Nozi Mbongwa and Stephanie Martin. Dr Trinity Ama Tagbor, Mr Kwabena Kelly Boakye and Mrs Delali Adjei from the Building and Road Research Institute (CSIR) in Ghana, shared their exciting research on the use of plastics in building and road construction. The series was topped off by PhD candidate Steve Allen and Dr Dee Allen’s presentation on microplastic sampling and their protocols, as well as their hair raising results on plastic litter flowing down the Swartkops River. Attendees tuned into the webinar series from eight different countries from around the world and provided valuable input and interaction. The next instalment to the webinar programme is scheduled for April 2019. We hope you can join us and be an active participant in sharing skills and knowledge towards achieving Zero Plastics to the Seas of Africa.
