SST welcomes Chandru Wadhwani to its Board of Trustees

SST is delighted to welcome Chandru Wadhwani to our esteemed Board of Trustees!

Chandru has been involved in the textile and plastics industries for the last 32 years, 22 of which have been spent as part of the team responsible for setting up and running Africa’s leading polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bottle recycling company, Extrupet, where he holds the position of Joint Managing Director.

Chandru’s dedication to advancing environmental initiatives is well respected throughout industry. He has also been actively involved with SST over the past four years, bringing a commitment to environmental sustainability and the circular economy that aligns perfectly with our mission and values.

As the Joint MD of Extrupet, Chandru’s expertise and leadership have played a pivotal role in expanding Extrupet’s footprint across the African continent, driving sustainable solutions and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders.

His academic background includes a BSc in Business Studies from City University of London, setting the foundation for his understanding of global business dynamics and sustainability practices.

As an ardent supporter of the Zero Waste to the Seas of Africa vision, Chandru is excited to be part of the strategic guidance team to  SST’s future ambitions.

“The updated and strengthened vision for the next few years to address more than plastic waste in Africa is ambitious, but the leadership team at SST is passionate, motivated, and has a strong strategy in place. I have no doubt they will achieve their vision, and they can rely on my support and partnership to realise it.”

As SST continues to drive innovation and sustainability in waste management practices, Chandru’s expertise and support will undoubtedly bring new energy to the work we do and help propel us towards a cleaner, more sustainable future for Africa and the development of the blue economy.
