The Algoa Bay Hope Spot in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has been relaunched with SST, together with Adj Professor Lorien Pichegru, as the new champions of the area, a testament to SST’s unwavering commitment to marine conservation and community upliftment.
Originally designated in 2014, the Algoa Bay Hope Spot, alongside the six other South African Hope Spot areas, has been relaunched by Mission Blue.
As part of the launch activities, SST had the opportunity to attend an insightful and engaging workshop with the Mission Blue team and all of the South African Hope Spot champions. This event was the first official gathering of these dedicated organisations, creating a space for valuable knowledge sharing and collaboration.
During the workshop, SST had the privilege of presenting the unique attributes and opportunities of the Algoa Bay Hope Spot, highlighting its status as one of the world’s most biodiverse regions and the importance of protecting this incredible marine environment. The delegation also spent some time visiting Kalk Bay in support of the False Bay Hope Spot community event where they engaged with the community about the importance of ocean and beach conservation.
As the new Champions of the Algoa Bay Hope Spot, SST is committed to advancing conservation initiatives, encouraging community involvement, and promoting sustainable practices to ensure the health and resilience of this vital marine ecosystem.
We extend our gratitude to Mission Blue for their continued support and look forward to collaborating with fellow Hope Spot Champions to safeguard our marine environments.
